As an authorized manufacturer/factory of an existing licensee are we required to obtain insurance coverage?
Yes. The Authorized Manufacturer's Agreement (AMA) requires that authorized manufacturers/factories carry at least $1,000,000 of Commercial General Liability insurance coverage for personal and advertising injury, bodily injury, and property damage arising out of each occurrence or the manufacturer's standard insurance policy limits, whichever is greater.
If you have any questions about CLC's insurance requirements, please review the insurance subsection of the license application or the information provided in the insurance agent/provider subsection of the FAQ's on www.clc.com.
We are an authorized manufacturer for an existing CLC licensee. Are we responsible for obtaining design approval prior to production?
No. The CLC licensee is responsible for all licensing obligations, including obtaining approvals, labeling, distribution, invoicing, and royalty payments. The primary responsibility of the authorized manufacturer is to follow the product guidelines provided by the licensee, maintain the required liability insurance and to limit production and distribution to the CLC licensee. In some cases, the licensee may request that the authorized manufacturer apply certain desired labeling and/or designs, but the ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the product is properly labeled and approved prior to distribution into the marketplace falls on the licensee.
We are an authorized manufacturer for an existing CLC licensee and received the Authorized Manufacturer's Agreement (AMA) from the licensee. What do we do with the AMA after we provide the factory site locations and sign it?
If the AMA has already been signed by the licensee, we recommend that authorized manufacturers send the AMA directly to the CLC coordinator assigned to the licensee. If you don't know the assigned CLC coordinator, please contact the licensee to obtain this information. If the AMA has not been signed by the licensee, you should send the AMA to the licensee for signature. The licensee will then forward the AMA to CLC for signature. Once CLC executes the agreement, we will send a copy to the licensee. We encourage the licensee to forward a copy to the authorized manufacturer/factory.
We would like to become an authorized manufacturer for a CLC licensee/company and understand we must sign an Authorized Manufacturer's Agreement (AMA). Where can we obtain an AMA?
You can obtain an AMA directly from the licensee you would like to become authorized to produce under. Traditionally, the licensee signs the document first and then forwards it to the authorized manufacturer/factory, but authorized manufacturers/factories may also execute the agreement first and send it to the licensee. It is important that the AMA is signed by both the licensee and authorized manufacturer/factory prior to it being sent to CLC for full execution.

We have been asked by an existing CLC licensee/company to supply them with finished or unfinished collegiate products. Are we required to do anything prior to producing for the licensee/company?
Existing CLC licensees may source finished or unfinished products from other suppliers/factories as long as they have executed an Authorized Manufacturers Agreement (AMA) and CLC has been provided a fully executed copy back to the licensee. The Authorized Manufacturer is not permitted to provide the outsourced product/production to any entity other than the CLC licensee. You can obtain the AMA from the requesting CLC licensee/company or you may download it from the "Licensing Information" section of www.clc.com. If you download the AMA from clc.com you MUST forward the agreement to the licensee for signing prior to having it sent to CLC for full execution.
We are an authorized manufacturer/factory and have submitted a fully signatured Authorized Manufacturer's Agreement (AMA) to CLC. Can we begin production of CLC collegiate product for our partner licensee?
No. You are not authorized to act as an authorized manufacturer until CLC fully executes the agreement and returns a copy to the licensee. This process should take no more than three weeks to complete. If you or the licensee have not heard back from CLC within three weeks of sending the AMA, please contact the licensee's CLC coordinator to inquire about the status of your AMA submission.
